Our webinar, The Best of VI in '25 united the most informative, interesting, and engaging talks we at EPRO experienced last year - and each full presentation was distilled into an info-packed, fast-paced TEN minute slot!

By popular demand, we are sharing each talk for our January blog series. So let's start with the first presentation by Sigrida Reinis of Langan and Andrew Campbell, an independent consultant.

In their talk, Sigrida and Andrew provide a quick overview of their presentations at the AVIP conference in 2025. They also introduce us to the Association of Vapor Intrusion Professionals' (AVIP) Best Practices VI Roadmap for mitigating new and existing structures.

Points highlighted in this talk:

VI risk objectives and metrics:

  • Objectives are numerical: Excess cancer risk and the hazard index

An introduction to calculations to predict performance metrics:

  • Need a lot of information to get started!

Setting numeric performance objectives:

  • Need to translate risk metrics into an acceptable concentration for each of the constituents of concern (attenuation factor)

Verifying performance:

  • Performance for membrane, concrete and so on
  • How well does a system need to perform to mitigate CoCs in soil gas
  • Goal is to reduce risk!
